Dean Luis H. Zayas was featured in today’s CNN story, “Latinos struggle to find help for mental health issues.”

The story focuses on the 6 million currently uninsured Latinos who will have have access to affordable health care thanks to Obamacare.

Latinos, however, are less likely than non-Hispanic whites to seek out professional mental health care. This disparity could be linked to the lack of Hispanic mental health professionals as well as stigma in the Hispanic community around mental illness.

Dean Zayas discussed how part of the problem is that the mental health and primary care systems are separated, and how they are presented to Latinos.

This is part one in a three-part series about health disparities in the Latino community that CNN is doing in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Read the story here.
