Dr. Roberta Greene Named Board Trustee for Barbara Jordan Freedom Foundation

AUSTIN, Texas – Roberta Greene, Ph.D., MSW, a professor at The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work, has been named to the Barbara Jordan 2010 Charitable Trust Board of Trustees. The Trust was established in June as the legal and financial vehicle for organizing the Barbara Jordan Freedom Foundation as a 501(c)3 organization.

The new foundation, planned to launch in February 2011, will be headquartered in Austin but national in scope. The Barbara Jordan Freedom Foundation is expected to conduct public campaigns in at least four areas—children, education, racial justice, and criminal justice—and to establish a master teachers program in low-income schools.

Dr. Greene, who holds the Louis and Ann Wolens Centennial Chair in Gerontology and Social Welfare, joins fellow University of Texas at Austin faculty Norma Cantu, J.D., College of Education; Philip C. Bobbitt, J.D., and Tina V. Fernandez, J.D., School of Law; and Michele Deitch, J.D., LBJ School of Public Affairs, and other prominent individuals on the 21-member Barbara Jordan 2010 Charitable Trust Board of Trustees.
