Dr. Barbara Jones has received the 2014 Outstanding Educational and Training Award from the American Psychosocial Oncology Society (APOS). This award was established to recognize leaders who enhance the field of psychosocial oncology through educating and training new investigators and clinicians.

Jones received this award for her work on ExCEL in Social Work, a federally funded and comprehensive educational program with the aim of improving the delivery of psychosocial care for oncology patients through intensive education of oncology social workers.

Jones is an associate professor at the School of Social Work, and the co-driector of the Institute for Grief, Loss and Family Survival. She has over 15 years of clinical experience working primarily with children and adolescents facing cancer and their families. She is the past president of the Association of Pediatric Oncology Social Workers (APOSW), a steering committee member of the Pediatric Palliative Care Research Network of North America, and a board member of the Social Work Hospice/ Palliative Care Network. Jones is the recipient of a number of awards, including APOSW Social Worker of the Year (2013) and the Dads Centennial Teaching Award (2014). She conducts research on pediatric palliative care, pediatric oncology social work interventions, Latino adolescent and young adult cancer survivors, and health promotion needs of adolescent and young adults cancer survivors.
