Committees
Professional Development Committee
The Career Development Committee shall address issues relevant to staff career development. Such issues may include, without limitations, recruitment and hiring of African American staff, promotion policies and general questions of career mobility in The University of Texas System. The committee shall raise questions and make recommendations regarding what BFSA, as well as the University can do to promote meaningful career development for African American staff at The University of Texas at Austin. The Employment Practices Committee shall review employment practices and personnel policies and procedures at The University of Texas at Austin; shall provide to BFSA members information regarding personnel policies and procedures with the University; and shall periodically report to the Association on employment-related issues, which may require educational training and collective action by members of BFSA.

Public Relations Committee
The Public Relations Committee shall have the responsibility of compiling and disseminating various kinds of information relevant to African American staff and faculty at The University of Texas at Austin. The dissemination of such information may be by means of a periodic newsletter published by BFSA.

Personnel Issues and Concerns Committee
The Personnel Issues and Concerns Committee shall congregate to handle personnel issues and concerns that need the immediate attention of the University administration. It shall work closely with members to justify any complaints or specific problems that need to be addressed immediately. The committee will evaluate situation and make a decision on how to best handle. The President should always serve on this committee.

Historian/Research Committee
The Historian/Research Committee shall perform recovery of historical information; shall perform research, and information retrieval functions in all areas relevant to BFSA. It shall work closely with other committees in helping to secure and develop information relevant to their separate functions. This committee will keep the history of BFSA and record and document yearly accomplishments. The Historian shall coordinate the committee.

Social-Cultural Committee
The Social-Cultural Committee shall plan and present formal and informal social cultural activities for BFSA and sponsor programs of various kinds to promote the exchange of ideas among the members of BFSA and the broader University community.

Fundraising and Membership Committee
The Fundraising and Membership Committee will be responsible for promoting activities that will provide finances to support the financial obligations of BFSA. The Committee will be responsible for at least one major fundraiser per year. The Committee will be responsible for increasing the number of African American staff and faculty paid members. The committee will also concentrate on implementing ways to encourage members to become actively involved in all aspects of the organization. The Committee will plan the “Annual Membership Drive,” and keep membership application available for open enrollment.

Dr. James L. Hill Education Scholarship Committee
The Scholarship Committee will coordinate or solicit funds for the annual scholarship awards. The Committee will be responsible for distributing scholarship applications, rating essays, and selection of winners of the awards.

Nomination and Election Committee
The Nomination and Election Committee will coordinate all functions in relation to Officer Elections to be held at the end of each academic year as well as at any time when a vacancy needs to be filled by election. This committee will be charged with publicity, collection of nominations, creating the election ballot and tallying of the secret ballots for the election. A Member of BFSA who is running for an officer position cannot serve on the Nomination and Election Committee in the same year they wish to be a candidate for an office. The Parliamentarian shall coordinate this committee, unless s/he is running for an office, at which point the Parliamentarian will appoint a committee chair.
