BSFA Inducts New Officers and Celebrates Accomplishments

On Tuesday, June 17th, the Black Faculty and Staff Association held it’s final meeting of the year, recognizing and celebrating outstanding work in supporting the goals of the organization and inducted new officers for the 2008-2009 academic-year. Audra Sneed, outgoing BFSA president, welcomed those in attendance and provided a summary of the accomplishments of the current year while expressing her confidence in the new officers. “I’m very excited to see the new board take up where we left off, and I know they’re bringing new ideas and initiatives to make BFSA vital, vibrant and viable”, said Sneed.

Sneed received a standing ovation from the audience in honor of her outstanding leadership as she ended her remarks and stepped away from the podium. Incoming president Kyle Clark remarked, “All of the applause is for Audra, because I haven’t done anything yet.”

All jokes aside, Clark outlined his agenda for the coming year and expressed his strong desire for faculty to be a greater part of the future of BFSA. “I’m coming after you (faculty), to play an integral role in the success of our organization”, said Clark.

President-elect Clark also stressed the importance of accessibility and commitment to the university community and stated, “Our continued commitment to each other will demonstrate our commitment to the university.” His four initiatives for the coming year include; being clear about BFSA’s commitment to students, being committed to wellness, increasing commitment to regaining and retaining faculty, and commitment to BFSA’s mission.

BFSA also recognized the 2007-2008 Faculty Member of the Year, Dr. Kevin Cokley, and the 2007-2008 Staff Member of the Year, Latonya M. Robinson, at the meeting.
