Elementary School in southeast Austin. HFSA members are encouraged

History
El día del niño is an annual celebration in Mexico and
in many Latin American countries. The celebration recognizes children and their
well-being and importance to society. When Texas native and nationally recognized
children's author, Pat Mora, learned of this event, she sought the support of
various individuals and organizations, including the American Library Association,
to assist in making El día de los niños/El día de los
libros (Children's Day/Book Day). a recognized day in our libraries, schools,
homes, and communities. The initiative became a reality on April 30, 1997. This
event promotes family literacy and multilingualism and is now celebrated in numerous
libraries and schools throughout the United States.
