Major: Theatre Studies
Internships: Lincoln Center Theatre (Department of Education) and Atlantic Theatre Company (Department of Development)
Perseverance, tenacity, and work ethic led me to the opportunities of a lifetime. My name is Janet Solis, and I am an uprising senior in BFA Theater Studies in the Department of Theater and Dance in the College of Fine Arts.
In addition to my strong family support system, I have been fortunate to be a student and a mentee to the amazing professors I have had the opportunity of learning from. Through the guidance of exceptional professors like Professor Stephen Gerald, Professor Joan Lazarus, and Professor Roxanne Schroeder-Arce, I am the student I am today. It is through their guidance that I am currently interning in the beautiful city of New York, at the Lincoln Center Theater in their Department of Education, and at the Atlantic Theater Company in their Department of Development.
My support systems serve as the torch that light up the way towards the golden path of success. The path that will eventually lead me to open a theater in the Rio Grande Valley that exhibits a multitude of cultures and arts, and that works with K-12 schools to embraces arts education in order to promote student’s performance in academic subjects.
What happens at the University of Texas at Austin changes the world, and it all starts with the one simple, single, step of not losing sight of your goals. The knowledge and experience I have gained interning in these two professional theaters, leads me one step closer to someday changing the world through the arts. Hook ‘Em!
