Aerospace Engineering Students Help Test Rocket Engines for Private Spacecraft Company

Students from the Cockrell School Aerospace and Engineering Mechanics Department (l-r: Ciara Waldron, Rebekah Sosland, and Michael Wharton) stand in front of the Tripod, the Falcon 9 test stand at SpaceX’s Rocket Development Facility in McGregor, Texas. The students worked this summer as SpaceX interns, supporting testing of SpaceX rocket engines. Every engine that SpaceX designs and fabricates is sent to Texas to be tested before flight. At the beginning of the summer, SpaceX made history by becoming the first private company to send a spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS), demonstrating the ability to both deliver cargo to the ISS, as well as return cargo to Earth.
