A land so different from the one I once knew. Dogs running free, mopeds as far as the eye could see, lights throughout the streets as to leave no place unlit. There is high humidity and people with great humility. People in a hurry rush to their bus or trains while guards take watch, regulating this free fast moving world.
I got off the airplane after many hours flying coach on Continental and Malaysia Airlines and I can't say I haven't thought about moving up to at least Business Class. Without much sleep my first week was not so great as I found myself trying to sleep at night with great difficulty, which ultimately help to make me weak enough to get sick. I keep thinking about things that are going on in the states and I am always wondering if my brother is doing okay. My mind is scattered and I am still tired from summer school, but fortunately I won't have to go through it anymore.
During the week CIEE had treated us to some meals at different restaurants around town and we also went to LongShan Temple. It was a very nice way to see the traditions that have moved on into present time here. I remember my aunt telling me in Korea how she felt that Koreans were very rude natured and yet somehow here I feel that I can find that too but what is rude to one custom is not in another and vice versa.
I really wish I could go home. Strange that I am saying this so soon. This world that I can't help but to compare with Korea seems so different but for me I don't belong. In Korea I had a greater chance to experience racial profiling but here I feel it so much no matter where I go. Not only am I American but that Black American, a stigma I must live with given to me by society. But there are some people I have meet here who's smiles brightened my day. Hopefully, the second week wont be so bad and I can get out of this jet lag.
