Interactive Budget for Study Abroad

The interactive budget is provided to give you a general idea of how much studying abroad is going to cost. Your abroad advisor will be able to help you refine your budget. Please do not enter the '$' sign before the number. Just enter the number . Before you begin you will need to know if your program is a UT Program, UT Exchange or a Program affiliated with UT. If your program is affiliated you will need to have the affiliate brochure in front of you to look up program costs.

 

UT Tuition

You will pay UT tuition on a reciprocal exchange program. If you are going on an affiliated program leave blank.
Reciprocal Program Fee

If you are going on an exchange program with a supplemental fee. If you are not going on an exchange program leave blank.
Affiliated Program Fee

If you are going on an affiliated program you pay a $400 fee per semester. If you are not going on an affiliated program leave blank.
Additional program Fee

If you are going on an affiliated program you pay a program fee. Certain exchange programs have a program fee (please refer to exchange program list).
Books/Materials

Enter $400 per semester
Housing

Cost per month x number of months abroad. Check to see if your affiliated or additional program fee includes housing.
Food

Cost per day x 30 x number of months abroad. Check to see if your affiliated or additional program fee includes food.
Airfare

Search the web or consult a travel agent for prices. Check to see if your affiliated or additional program fee includes airfare.
Local transportation

How will you travel around your city or town? Local transportation could include bus fare, trains, taxis, other. Check to see if your affiliated or additional program fee includes local transportation.
Personal Items

Personal items depend on your lifestyle. Include toiletries, clothing, nights out, souvenirs, etc.
Medical Insurance

Estimated expense $35 per month. Check to see if your affiliate program fee includes insurance. Exchange students will most likely need to purchase a supplemental policy.
International Student Identification Card

The cost of the ISIC card is $32.00. $22.00 if you have your own photo.
Passport

$ 100.00
Visa

Cost of visa plus necessary photos and other documents. If your host country does not require a visa leave blank.
Travel

Additional cost for recreational travel and sight seeing. This is independent travel from your program.
Emergency funds

We recommend $500 be estimated for emergencies.
