Employment Opportunities

Reciprocal Exchange students may work at jobs on the UT campus for a maximum of 20 hours per week during fall and spring semesters while they are enrolled in classes. Various divisions and departments of the University have job postings and do their own hiring, including the Texas Union, Recreational Sports, Housing and Food Service, the libraries, the Performing Arts Center, and the Erwin Center. Check with specific employment offices for job openings. The UT division hiring international students will give them a Payment Request Form to be signed by the International Student and Scholar Services unit of the International Office.

Authorization for any off-campus employment must be given by the appropriate advisor. Permission for off-campus employment is granted by your internatnioal exchange advisor if the employment meets criteria of academic training.

A Social Security Number is required to recieve payment for employment in the U.S. Students will need to apply for a social security number if they don't have one. UT ID numbers are not valid for employment purposes. Authorization letters from the International Office are required to obtain a Social Security Number. By Immigration Regulations, letters can only be processed once a student has registered for classes.
