Students walking to class

What to do now

Once you have arrived here you automatically will get “bars” which prevent you from registering. This means before you can register you have to clear the following bars:

  1. 1. International Office Bar
You have to attend the IBC (Immigration Briefing and Check-in) at the International Office. Please click here to schedule an appointment online.
  2. 2. Health Bar
You have to do the TB test. Please note that it takes 48 hours to get the result. Not having the result prevents you from registering.
You also have to get the immunizations if you haven’t got them at home.
  3. 3. Academic Advising Bar
You have to meet with an academic advisor. Before you arrive here you will get a chart with the names of the different advisors by email.

Choice of Classes

All International Exchange Students are considered as undergraduate students, regardless to their status at their home university. But nevertheless you are allowed to take graduate classes, as long as you have the prerequisites to take them and as long as there's a spot available.

Registration

Registration (online) will take place on August 21 and 22. There's no possibility to register earlier. In case that some classes might be full at this time, you should have some substitutes in mind.

You have to be enrolled full time to maintain your status as an exchange student in the US. Full time means:
12 hours, if you take undergraduate classes only or a combination of grad/undergrad classes or 9 hours if you take graduate classes only.

Fees

All exchange students have to pay the following fees:
$51.50 International Student Services Fee
$10.00 UT ID Fee
Plus health insurance if you haven't been waived ($1300 per year, can be bought for one semester only)

You have to pay the fees AFTER you have registered. There's no possibility to pay the fees before registration!
