Grading System & Course Numbering System
Instructors are required to give all students in their classes a course syllabus the first day of class that outlines the course requirements, assignments, required texts, and grading policy. Exchange students are encouraged to keep course syllabi, exams, and written work to aid their home universities in awarding equivalent credit and grades.
Final grades that appear on official UT transcripts and grade reports are A,B,C,D,F,CR.
CR (credit) of F is given when a course is taken credit/no credit or pass/fail.
The University of Texas at Austin grading system is as follows:

Grade Point Average (GPA)
The grade
point average is calculated on the basis of all work the student
has undertaken at The University of Texas at Austin (including
credit by examination, correspondence, and extension) for which
a grade of A ,B, C, D or F is recorded.
To calculate your GPA, add your grade point and divide the sum by the number of credit hours you took.
Course Numbering System
The course numbering system designates courses by three digit numbers, or by numbers with a capital letter affixed, which indicate both rank and credit value in semester hours. The key to credit carried by a course is the first digit. Course numbers 201-299 indicate a value of two semester hours; 301-399, three semester hours; etc. Zero as the first digit indicates that the course is non-credit. The two digits on the right indicated the rank of the course: 01-19 lower division, 20-79 upper division, and 80-99 graduate.
Exchange Students are required to register for a full academic load (12 credit hours of undergraduate course work or credit hours of graduate courses per semester) unless the terms of the exchange agreement state otherwise. Seventeen credit hours is considered the maximum undergraduate load and not recommended for first semester exchange students.
