Student Services

UT Learning Center (UTLC) provides a variety of academic support services to students, including free group programs and drop-in tutoring, English as a Second Language classes, informal groups, self-study materials and writing assistance.Individual tutoring by appointment is available for a fee.

Counseling and Mental Health Services (CMHC) is staffed by licensed professional counselors, counseling and clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers. 

Information Technology Services is the office for all email, computer, technology, and telecommunication services. Computer facilities are located throughout campus. Many departments operate computer labs for use by their students only; check your department for availability, location, and hours. All UT students can access the Student Microcomputer Facility (SMF) in FAC 212. During the regular semester, this lab is open late on most nights. Check the schedule for exact times. Several computers are available for students’ use at the SMF. Help, consulting, and information services are available through the ITS help desk.

Legal Services for Students advises students in all legal matters except disputes concerning other UT students, the UT system, or immigration questions.

Ombudsman assists UT students in finding solutions to difficulties on campus. The ombudsman serves as a source of information on University policies and procedures and counsels students on their options for addressing concerns or finding a resolution to their problems. The ombudsman investigates grievances and recommends corrective measures.Counseling is confidential and available by phone or in person.

The U.S. Post Office provides complete postal services on campus, Mondays-Fridays. It is in the West Mall Building (WMB) west side entrance, across from Goldsmith Hall.

Performing Arts Center (UT PAC) brings in various performances, musicians, dancers, singers, etc. throughout the year. Students can pay a Performing Arts fee at registration for reduced priced tickets to most events. Other specials and discounts are available for many shows. Austin Symphony, Ballet Austin and Austin Lyric Opera perform at Bass Concert Hall and often have student discounts. Check Daily Texan ads and at the box office.

Recreational Sports offers opportunities to participate in a wide variety of recreational and sports activities, including intramurals, sports clubs, outdoor adventures on weekends, open recreation, and fitness/wellness programs.

Services for Students with Disabilities provides a variety of programs, services, written materials and assistance for students with disabilities, based on the need of the individual student.

Texas Union is the university's community center, offering educational and leisure activities, a place for casual conversations as well as formal meetings and programs. A bowling alley, information center, campus convenience store, copy center, live entertainment in the Cactus Cafe and Showdown, movie theater and various dining options are all located in the Texas Union.  Union Informal Classes are very popular and offered on a wide variety of topics.

Undergraduate Writing Center provides free help with class writing assignments.

 

University Health Services (UHS) provides medical and educational services which promote and maintain the health of the UT-student population. There are no office visit charges for registered students, but fees are charged for lab tests, x-rays, allergy shots, and certain other services.
