About UT

The University of Texas at Austin, founded in 1883, has become a major research university with a broad mission of undergraduate and graduate education, research, and public service. UT is home to over 48,000 students from all 50 states and over 100 countries, a full-time faculty of around 2,700, and 10,000 plus staff members. Cultural entertainment, sports events, and extracurricular organizations enrich the experience of students beyond the classroom.

University Services & Facilities

Student services provided by UT are available to reciprocal exchange students and include access to Libraries, Recreational Sports, University Health Services, Counseling and Mental Health Center, Information Technology Services, and the Learning Center.

All UT students have free use of the UT shuttle bus and City of Austin bus transportation systems

UT Austin has the fifth-largest academic library in North America. Components include the Center for American History and Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, one of the world’s most important collections of its kind. Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center has internationally recognized rare book and manuscript collections in American, English, French and Italian literature. Perry-Casta ñeda Library, UT’s main library collection, is open 24 hours on most weekdays and contains more than 2.5 million books.

The Division of Recreational Sports activities play important roles in the nonacademic life of UT students. Offerings include Outdoor Adventures trips and workshops, over 40 sports clubs, structured competition through intramurals, fitness/wellness classes, and open recreation in state of the art facilities.

UT Learning Center provides academic support services and programs to help students increase their efficiency in university level reading, writing, test taking, ESL, and study skills.

Art galleries on campus, including the Blanton Museum and the Texas Memorial Museum, exhibit touring exhibitions, student/faculty shows and major permanent collections of 20th Century American, Western American, contemporary Latin American, Renaissance, and Baroque art. UT has begun construction of a magnificent new museum to house its extensive art collections.

The UT International Office supports UT’s international community with many helpful services. Of special interest to exchange students are extensive new student orientation programming and Saturday day trips organized each semester to such places as Houston, NASA, San Antonio, Enchanted Rock State Park and the surrounding hill country.

The Texas Union is the University’s community center, offering educational and leisure activities, entertainment and dining options, and the very popular Texas Union informal classes.

UT’s Performing Arts Center complex presents year-round entertainment - classical and jazz concerts, Broadway touring companies, pop singers, world music, dance, opera, and drama.

Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library, the first U. S. presidential library to be built on a university campus, houses LBJ ’s archives, papers, and memorabilia and offers exhibits of political life of 20th Century United States of America.

UT Gameday
