ARCHEOLOGY

ANT 662 Field Archaeology
Taught on site and in English by UT professor Dr. Mariah Wade. A hilltop fort and settlement that spans the period from the Iron Age to the Roman era, Bagunte is part of a network of about 4000 sites in northwestern Portugal and Spain.

ANT 379 Problems in Anthropology
Students who are authorized by Prof. Wade to carry out special projects might sign up for two courses (ANT 324 and ANT 379). The area’s varied cultural resources related to art history, ancient fishing practices, ship-building, lace-making, mining, Roman architecture, religion and ancient crafts may be of interest for independent study.

Field trips and workshops will give students hands-on experience and contact with local craftspeople deeply involved in reviving ancient cultural traditions.
