Brazil

BRAZIL, SALVADOR DA BAHIA

PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE AND BRAZILIAN CULTURE

The program will be hosted by the well-respected Brazilian American Cultural Associ tion of Bahia (ACBEU). ACBEU is a language school and cultural center where foreign students study Portuguese and local Brazilians study English. ACBEU’s centrally located Vitoria campus provides quick access to many historical and cultural points of the city. The highly qualified teachers, small teacher-to-student ratio classes, well-equipped modern classrooms, library, art gallery and theater offer students a unique learning environment. Cultural immersion is furthered through homestays with selected local families from the surrounding neighborhoods. ACBEU faculty will teach most of the
Portuguese language courses except for POR 362, which will be taught by UT Department of Spanish and Portuguese faculty member Vivian Flanzer.

The academic program will be complemented by lectures and guided excursions with local academics and cultural experts.

The program provides pre-departure and onsite orientation to help students acclimate to living in Brazil and foster self-responsibility, cultural awareness, and safety habits.
