During the first week of July Salvador celebrates the anniversary of its independence from Portugal with one of the most interesting and not-tobe-missed parades in Brazil.
Salvador is Brazil’s second most popular vacation destination due to its extraordinary cultural richness, music and arts agenda, historic buildings and pleasant climate. An attractive coastline of white sandy beaches, mangroves and bay islands is kept lush by coastal rains. With a population of almost three million people, Salvador is considerably smaller and more manageable than São Paulo (17 million) and Rio de Janeiro (10 million) but it is the powerhouse of Northeastern Brazil.
