Prospective Fine Arts transfer students are urged to become familiar with the College's curricula and rules in the Undergraduate Catalog 2008-2010.

Students who transfer directly from a Texas community college may choose to graduate under UT Austin catalog rules in effect during the time they attended the community college; those declaring the 2008-2010 catalog must complete all degree requirements by the end of the summer session 2016. At least sixty semester credit hours must be completed at UT Austin to earn an undergraduate degree.

Prospective students can monitor their UT degree progress – even before transfer – and check degree applicability of A.C.C. courses by using the “Planner” function of UT's Interactive Degree Audit (IDA) system.

The Office of Admissions evaluates courses from other institutions for comparability with UT Austin coursework, but the Dean's Office in the College of Fine Arts approves transfer credit for use in a degree program.

• Admission to the programs in Studio Art, Art History, pre-Design, and Visual Art Studies requires approval from the department's admission committee. Applicants in Studio Art, pre-Design, or Visual Art Studies must submit a portfolio containing examples of their best artwork.

• Auditions are required for admission to the programs in Music or Dance.

• Transfer credit in music performance (MUAP) may not be counted toward a degree in music until the student has completed additional performance coursework at UT Austin.

• Core curriculum transfer credit from A.C.C. is guaranteed to apply toward UT core requirements, but degree plans may specify how some core requirements should be fulfilled. Recommendations in this Guide satisfy core requirements with courses normally required by a student's major field of study at UT.

• Courses in which grades lower than C− are earned do not transfer. Grades from transfer credit are excluded from a student's internal UT Austin grade point average computation.

• Physical education activity credit counts toward elective degree requirements in the College of Fine Arts at the discretion of the Dean's Office.

• In some degree plans it may be necessary to take additional lower-division coursework in subjects listed below after transferring to UT, because the necessary courses are not offered at A.C.C.

The University requires all students to have completed two years of high school study in a single foreign language. Transfer students who do not meet this requirement are assessed a foreign language deficiency; removal of deficiencies is required for graduation. To remove a deficiency, credit for the second college-level course in a language (numbered 1512) is required. Credit used to remove a deficiency cannot be applied toward other degree requirements. Prospective students should complete coursework needed to satisfy a foreign language deficiency prior to transfer.

one course chosen from ANTH 2351, ECON 2301 or 2302, GEOG 1303, PSYC 2301, or SOCI 1301 or 1306. Students pursuing teacher certification should choose PSYC 2301.

3 semester hours at the content level of College Algebra (MATH 1314) or higher, including MATH 1332.

For the B.Music, performance majors:

  MATH (excluding 1314 and credit used for the core mathematics requirement) is also applicable, but after credit in any calculus course is earned only courses for which calculus is a prerequisite can be counted.

in a single foreign language, either two years of prior high school credit or two college-level semesters chosen from courses numbered 1511 & 1512.

For the BA degrees in Art, Music, and Theatre & Dance:

four semesters in a single language, chosen from courses numbered 1511, 1512, 2311, & 2312.

For the B.Music in Voice Performance:

FREN 1511 & GERM 1511. First-semester Italian, not offered by A.C.C., is required after transferring to UT Austin.
