International Graduate Admission-How to Apply

To apply for international graduate admission, complete these steps:

  • Complete the ApplyTexas online application .
This is the fastest, easiest way for you to submit your application and is our preferred method for receiving applications.
  • Pay your application fee
You can pay by Visa or MasterCard when you fill out your online application. Alternately, you may mail in your fee payment in the form of a check or money order in U.S. dollars to:

    Graduate and International Admissions Center
The University of Texas at Austin
    P.O. Box 7608
    Austin, Texas 78713-7608

Make checks payable to the University of Texas at Austin.

Write your Application ID number (six digit), UT EID, or UT Assigned Student ID number (or SSN if you have one) on your check or money order.

International applicants who have not previously been enrolled at the University must pay a nonrefundable processing fee of seventy-five dollars (U.S. $75.00) for all majors except MBA (B16100), MBA Option II (B16105), and graduate dual degree programs with the Graduate School of Business, for which the application processing fee is $125.00. The application fee for the Master in Professional Accounting (MPA) program (B01100), is $100.00.

Do not send cash or personal checks. Only cashier's checks, bank money orders, bank drafts in U.S. dollars drawn on U.S. banks, or payment by Visa or MasterCard credit card will be accepted.

Your application will not be processed unless the fee has been paid. The fee must accompany the application for admission to avoid a delay in processing. The application fee is NOT refundable.

  • Submit official transcripts to GIAC
    Mail your official transcripts to:

    Graduate and International Admissions Center
The University of Texas at Austin
    P.O. Box 7608
    Austin, Texas 78713-7608

You must provide an official copy of the academic transcript from every senior college attended. Unofficial transcripts--those that do not bear the facsimile signature of the registrar and seal of the issuing institution--are not acceptable. Photocopies (even ones certified by a notary public or commissioner of oaths) are NOT considered official. Transcripts are not required from junior colleges and community colleges.

If documents are written in a language other than English, complete and official English translations must be provided together with the original language records. Each transcript (mark sheet) should contain a complete record of studies at the institution from which it is issued (i.e., the subjects taken and grades [marks] earned in each subject).

Even if courses taken at one institution are recorded on another college's transcript, transcripts must be submitted from the institution at which courses were taken.

You can speed the processing of your application by having your transcript(s) sent electronically. Institutions that are on the Texas Electronic Transcript Network or which use the national ANSI ASC X12 transcript format (SPEEDE) can provide electronic transcripts. GIAC prefers to receive electronic transcripts because they can be processed much faster than paper transcripts. Check with the registrar of your institution to find out if transcripts can be sent electronically.

The University of Texas at Austin uses an electronic image scanning system for the storage of transcripts. Original transcripts are not kept once the electronic image has been created. If you would like to have your foreign transcripts returned to you, send a self-addressed envelope of a suitable size together with a request to return them. This request must be made at the time of application. Postage will be paid by the University. We will not return transcripts issued by United States universities.
  • Submit official GRE/GMAT and either the TOEFL or the Academic Examination of the IELTS test scores to GIAC
Check with the program to which you are applying to see which test you should take. Only test scores mailed directly from the testing agency are considered official. Test scores are received by the University approximately four to six weeks after a test is taken if the University is designated as a score recipient at the time of testing.

The Educational Testing Service (ETS) code for the University of Texas at Austin is 6882. Test scores sent to this code are made available to all graduate departments.

There is no institutional code for the IELTS examination. Test takers should provide the following address to have their official score sent to UT Austin:

    Graduate and International Admissions Center
The University of Texas at Austin
    P.O. Box 7608
    Austin, Texas 78713-7608

Tests should be taken well in advance of the appropriate application dates to ensure that scores will arrive prior to the deadlines. Copies of test scores are not considered official, but they may help the University locate a student's official test scores and are therefore useful when the application is processed. GRE and GMAT scores more than five years old and TOEFL or IELTS scores more than two years old will not be accepted.

Note: Application materials, including test scores and transcripts, are kept for one calendar year. If you have made application in the past, you may be required to re-submit certain credentials.
