Relatively large percentages of first-time entering freshmen at UT-Austin remain enrolled through the start of their sophomore year. Among the first-time freshmen who entered UT-Austin from 1984 through 1993, 84% returned for the fall semester of their sophomore year; approximately 75% returned for the start of their junior year.

University fellowships carry a stipend up to $11,000. Tuition and fees may or may not be included, depending on the fellowship.
More than 6,000 students, approximately 12% of the total student body, live in university-owned housing. Approximately one half (47%) of freshmen live in residence halls.
In addition, the Division of Food and Housing maintains a listing of off-campus, privately-owned housing to help students locate off-campus rental housing.
Students at the UT-Austin participate in intramural sports at a very high rate - 87% of all students were involved in one or more recreational sports activities. In 1994-1995 there were more than 400 touch football teams, 500 softball teams, 500 basketball teams, and 160 soccer teams participating in recreational sports leagues.
