Students must complete at least sixty semester credit hours in residence at UT Austin to earn an undergraduate degree in the College of Education.
Use of Transfer Credit Toward Degrees
The Office of Admissions evaluates courses from other institutions for comparability with UT Austin coursework, but only the Dean's Office in the College of Education has authority to approve transfer credit for use in a degree program.
Questions concerning degree/graduation requirements, degree applicability of transfer credit, and teacher certification should be directed to the Dean's Office, College of Education, SZB 216, UT Austin, Austin TX 78712 (phone 512/471-3223).
Questions concerning transfer admission and transfer credit evaluation should be directed to the Office of Admissions, MAI 7, UT Austin, Austin TX 78712 (phone 512/475-7399).
Prospective Education transfer students are urged to become familiar with the College's curricula and rules in the Undergraduate Catalog 2006-2008.
Students who transfer directly from a Texas community college may choose to graduate under UT Austin catalog rules in effect during the time they attended the community college. Students declaring the Undergraduate Catalog 2006-2008 must complete all degree requirements by the end of the summer session 2014.

Special Notes
Students pursuing middle grades, secondary, or all-level teacher certification in Texas must earn a bachelor's degree in the field they intend to teach.
Core curriculum transfer credit from Texas community colleges is guaranteed to apply toward UT Basic Education requirements, but not all core courses are suitable for a particular major field of study. Recommendations in this Guide satisfy core requirements with coursework needed for the major, enabling students to complete lower-division degree requirements with minimal credit.
Grades from transfer credit are not combined with grades earned at UT Austin to determine the student's internal University grade point average. Transfer credit is not granted for courses in which grades of D or F are earned.
College Algebra (MATH 1314 or 1414) applies toward degrees in the College of Education only in combination with MATH 1350 or UT Austin's M 316K.
A maximum of three semester hours of physical education activity coursework may be applied as elective credit toward any degree in the College of Education.
A maximum of nine semester hours in Air Force, Military, or Naval Science may be applied as free elective credit toward any degree in the College of Education.
High School Preparation
The College of Education requires all students to have completed two years of high school study in a single foreign language. Transfer students who do not meet this requirement are assessed a deficiency by the Dean's Office; removal of deficiencies is required for graduation. To remove a foreign language deficiency, credit for the 2nd-semester college level course in a language is required.
Prospective students should complete coursework needed to satisfy high school deficiencies prior to transfer.
