Texas commnity colleges use the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCN), a uniform set of four-character abbreviations for academic disciplines and four-digit course numbers. The first digit of the number represents the course's academic level (0 for subfreshman, 1 for freshman, 2 for sophomore) and the second digit represents its semester hour credit value.

Listed below are TCCN designations and their UT Austin equivalents. In UT's three-digit course numbers, the first digit denotes the semester hour credit value; the suffixes A or B denote the first or second parts of a course and halve the value of the first digit. Some evaluations are UT Austin course numbers modified to accommodate credit values different from those offered at UT. A single course may transfer as two UT courses, for example PHYS 1401 = PHY 302K + 102M.

Community colleges offer more transferable courses than indicated below. This list includes only TCCN courses that consistently transfer as the same UT Austin credit. Evaluations for courses not listed here and other institution-specific transfer credit can be found by accessing the Automated Transfer Equivalency system.

Notes:

  1. This evaluation is a modified UT Austin course number with less credit value than is normally offered at the University, and substitutes for the UT course of greater value only at the discretion of the student's academic Dean's office.

  2. This evaluation is a modified UT Austin course number with more credit value than is normally offered at the University.

  3. This evaluation is a course no longer offered at UT Austin but still applicable toward degrees.

  4. Many biology courses transfer as generic credit with no specific UT Austin course number. FLAB or SLAB denotes freshman- or sophomore-level lecture+lab credit; FRMN or SOPH, freshman or sophomore lecture credit; and LAB, lower-division lab credit. Such credit applies toward natural science requirements in most nonscience or nontechnical degrees; in biology degrees only with department approval; and in any degree requiring specific biology courses only with approval of the student's academic Dean's office.

  5. Major-track biology sequences (TCCN designations BIOL 1406 & 1407 or 1306 & 1307) may transfer as BIO 311C & 311D or as 3-hour versions of BIO 211 & 214. Accompanying lab credit typically transfers as 1-hour versions of BIO 205L & 206L.

  6. Nonmajor biology courses (TCCN designations BIOL 1408, 1409, 1308, or 1309) may transfer generically or as a specific nonmajor course. Nonmajor lab courses transfer generically.

  7. General botany/zoology courses (TCCN designations BIOL 1411, 1413, 1311, 1313, 1111, or 1113) do not fit well in UT Austin's biology curriculum and are not recommended for students majoring in biology or other programs requiring major-track biology.

  8. Because community colleges organize the two-semester government sequence differently, it is strongly recommended that students complete both courses at one institution.

  9. MATH 2417 & 2419 are an accelerated 2-semester calculus sequence comparable to UT Austin's M 408C & 408D, but the courses are not widely available at community colleges. Instead, a 3- or 4-semester sequence is offered consisting of MATH 2413 (or 2313, 2513), 2414 (or 2314), 2415 (or 2315), and sometimes 2316, which transfer directly as or as variants of UT's M 408K, 408L, & 408M.

  10. Most community colleges offer calculus-based physics as PHYS 2425 & 2426 (or 2325 & 2326). A few community colleges add a third course, PHYS 2427. In such cases PHYS 2425 may transfer as PHY 301; PHYS 2426 as PHY 316; and PHYS 2427 as either PHY 315 or as generic physics credit.

  11. CHEM 1405 & 1407 (or 1305 & 1307) may be offered as a survey sequence for nonscience and nontechnical students, in which case they transfer as CH 304K & 305. UT Austin recommends the courses for pre-nursing students only if 1305/1405 is inorganic & organic chemistry and 1307/1407 is organic & biochemistry.

  12. ENGR 1204 or 1304 transfers as M E 210 or 310 when the course emphasizes computer-aided design, otherwise as generic mechanical engineering credit.
