Why would I want to have Bevo Bucks?

Bevo Bucks is a debit card program that uses the UT ID card to access funds in an account. It is for your safety and convenience. You will always have your UT ID card with you.

Carrying cash is dangerous. If cash is lost or stolen, it is simply gone. If the your ID is lost or stolen, you can deactivate your card (24 hours a day through the web using the UTDirect system) rendering it useless. You can get a new ID card and have access to your Bevo Bucks, on your new card, immediately.

Note - If a thief found a wallet, cash, credit cards and debit cards are instantly recognizable forms of payment. They will take them and use them. The ID is not recognizable as a form of payment to many people, besides students. It greatly reduces the risk of theft.

You will receive a 10% discount on food and beverage purchases at all DHFS locations.

Can students withdraw cash from their Bevo Bucks?

Cash may not be withdrawn from Bevo Bucks. Unlike the typical ATM or check card, the Bevo Bucks account is designed for small quick transactions (getting a soft drink from a vending machine, buying lunch at one of UT's eateries, etc.). It is a convenient way to spend since the student has to have their ID for so many other purposes already. Bevo Bucks is refundable when students graduate or have a break in enrollment from The University of Texas at Austin for at least one year. At the time in which Bevo Bucks is refunded, please know that any unpaid debt to the University will be deducted from the balance of the account.

Why do vending machines look for 5 cents more than the cost of the product?

Vending machines must issue a refund in order to recognize the end of a card-based transaction. This is just the way they are programmed. So, in order for the machine to 'finish' the transaction, it needs to charge $0.05 more that the actual purchase price and then refund the $0.05. For a $1.25 item, there will be a charge of $1.30 and then a refund of $0.05.

Why should I put money in my student's Bevo Bucks account?

When you add funds to your student's debit account, you ensure that the money is used for essentials such as school materials, personal care items, and food. Your student benefits by having a convenient, safe, and cash-free method of making daily transactions. Because every student already has a UT ID card, you do not need to sign up for any extra accounts, and there are no maintenance fees, minimum balances, or transaction charges.

What is eProxy and can I check my student's debit account balance and transactions?

You can but only if you are an eproxy for the Bevo Bucks system.

A proxy is a person authorized to act for another person. An eProxy is someone who has obtained a UTEID and has been granted the authority to access another person's electronic records through the web services offered here at UT. An eProxy is authorized by service (so you may be authorized for one service but not another), and each authorization is valid for up to one year as specified by the granter.

You may grant eproxy status to others who may view your housing statement online. eProxy is a system that allows you to authorize others to view information about you and pay bills for you. You can authorize your parents or guardian to view your Housing Status, Housing Bill Information, Dine In Dollars Balance and Dine In Dollars Transactions. You can also authorize your parents to pay your bill online and add funds to your Dine In Dollars or Bevo Bucks accounts.
These authorizations are valid for electronic (web) services only, and do not apply to communications with the university by phone, by mail, in person, or by any other method.
