Internet Political Strategist
John McCain's $6.4 million take from online fund raising was a wake-up call for Luddite politicians and for budding Internet political strategists. "Plenty of people can build a pretty Web page, but that's not enough. We're translators between technical types and traditional political communicator types," says Chris Casey, 35, of Monclair, VA. He left a job on the Hill this year to start an Internet politics firm, helping politicians gather voter info, raise money, and find the balance between paltry online info and spamming that overwhelms and annoys John and Jane Q. Public.
Qualifications:
Web-building skills and political experience; a graduate degree in government is a plus. And try a stint as a campaign volunteer or political intern.
