Is Graduate School For Me?
Usually, students who choose
to attend grad school are most successful if:
1) they want to learn about a particular academic discipline in depth and/or
2) they need specific graduate training for the career they wish to pursue.
The decision to attend graduate school can be a difficult one. Perhaps you have been pondering some of these questions...
| Is entering grad school straight out of my undergraduate experience right for me? | |
Is my motivation level genuinely high? |
|
Do I feel passionate about my particular field of study? |
|
| Do I qualify for admission? | |
Will my GPA qualify me for admission? |
|
Are my admissions test scores suitable for admission standards? |
|
| Can I afford graduate school? | |
Have I realistically computed the total cost of graduate school? |
|
| Am I sure about the academic program and school I've chosen? | |
Do I know whether the program is research-oriented or clinically-oriented? ? |
|
Do I know whether my career field requires a master's degree or a doctorate? |
|
| Do I have enough information about the job prospects in the future for individuals with advanced degrees in my chosen field? | |
Have I talked with recent graduates in my field and asked about their job-search experiences? |
|
Have I researched labor market trends for different career fields? |
