Wildlife Manager

Do you enjoy working with animals? Does the idea of working outdoor appeal to you? Are you motivated to preserve the environment? Then consider a career in wildlife management! Wildlife managers work to ensure the well-being and health of wildlife and its habitats, usually on public multiple-use lands.

What they do:
The career of wildlife manager is a varied one. Here are some of the projects they might typically work on:

Taking blood tests and examining animals
Evaluating animal habitats
Creating sanctuaries for endangered species
Enforcing public land use and federal guidelines governing it
Serving as environmental specialists to government bodies
Conducting public information tours and writing articles about wildlife protection

Where they work:
Most wildlife managers work for federal, state, and local government agencies, such as the Forest Service, the Department of the Interior, and the Bureau of Land Management. There are also many nonprofit organizations that hire wildlife managers, including the Nature Conservancy, the World Wildlife Fund, and the Sierra Club. In addition, corporate jobs are available in the timber, ranching, and mining industries as well as zoos, biological labs, and consulting firms.
