Legal Nurse Consultant

If you have interests in health care and law but don’t want to be an attorney, legal nurse consultant may be a career for you to consider.  Legal nurse consultants (LNC) are registered nurses with specialized health care expertise and knowledge who consult on medical-related legal cases.  These cases usually deal with such issues as medical negligence, product liability, personal injury, workers compensation, and fraud.

What they do:
LNCs gather, review, and summarize medical records and legal documents.  They help find expert witnesses, implement risk-management programs, draft litigation documents, and provide input into case resolution strategies.

Where they work:
LNCs work in many different settings, including law firms, hospitals, insurance companies, government agencies, consulting firms, and their own freelance businesses.
