What Is A Career Counselor?

The CEC has a team of professional counselors who specialize in career development. Each counselor at the CEC has a graduate degree in counseling or a related field. Most are also licensed by the State of Texas as Licensed Professional Counselors. The Center also has a counseling intern program where master's and doctoral students are trained to provide career counseling at the CEC. Student in counseling session

What Do Career Counselors Do?

Your career counselor will listen, ask questions, give feedback, help identify obstacles and teach strategies so you can determine your next steps in decision making.

At the CEC we view career development as integral to life as a whole. In other words, career decisions are impacted by a range of influences, from societal, economic and workforce trends to family matters, personal desires and fears. You and your counselor might explore how these influences might be affecting your decision making.

Whatever you are trying to decide about your major, career, internships, part-time work, study abroad, graduate school– all these choices can be discussed with your career counselor.
