Welcome To The Career Assistant Program

Thank you for your interest in the Career Assistant Program at the Career Exploration Center. The CEC employs UT full-time students to help deliver career information and assistance to all UT-Austin students.

Career Assistants (CAs) receive extensive training in:

  • communication skills
  • career education
  • presentation skills
  • career information research

Training is ongoing. During the academic year, CAs will receive training in career development, internships, graduate school planning, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills. This combination of extensive skills training and actual work experience will provide the CA with many of the necessary tools to be marketable in the professional world of work.

What We Do at the CEC CEC interns and staff

The CEC helps UT students explore major and career options, identify internship opportunities, and plan for graduate school. Career Counseling is the primary method through which we assist students.

At the CEC, counselors and CAs create a safe environment for students to introspectively explore who they are as it relates to career. Career Counselors are practiced in the art of uncovering those obstacles (psychological, cultural, economical, relational, etc.) that might challenge a student’s career development. Once the student begins to articulate who they are and what obstacles exist, the counselor helps the student to address those challenges and explore their career options. Our goal is to validate, guide, inform, and support students through the ever-evolving process of career decision-making.
