Welcome UT Parents and Family Members!

Dear UT Parent and Family Member:

Welcome to the CEC’s website. We have designed these pages specifically for family members like you, to help you easily navigate our website and learn about our services for UT-Austin students.

What is the CEC? We are a department within the Division of Student Affairs, dedicated to the career decision-making process of every student at UT-Austin. We counsel students as they discover what they want to do and where they want to use their talents in the world of work.

Students often tell us that their family members have a huge impact on how they envision their future careers. By sharing our ideas and information with you, we hope you will become a more effective ally to your son or daughter during their college years.

The content of a counseling session with your son or daughter is confidential, so we can’t share details with you. But we do invite you to join us in promoting informed decision-making. Some of you might choose to do this by informing your son or daughter about our services. Others might choose to attend one of the CEC’s events during Parent’s Weekend in the Fall semester and ExploreUT in the Spring semester.  Still others might choose to fully utilize our web resources and thereby partner with us in how to talk to your son or daughter about career options.

The overview listed on the navigation bar to your left will provide helpful information about career decision-making, about what parents can do to support their children, and how UT-Austin students can make an appointment with a career counselor at the CEC.  Also included is a collection of FAQs and our sitemap, which will help you search the entire CEC website. You will be able to easily locate the many career resources we offer, such as links to the Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook; salary information for specific careers in specific locales; articles on how to find an internship; or tips on how to research graduate programs.

We do our best to serve the students at UT-Austin, and we look forward to the opportunity to personally meet with your son or daughter at the CEC.

Warm regards,

The CEC staff
