Forensic Video Analyst
Let’s face it: surveillance cameras are watching us - in banks, shopping malls, traffic intersections. These cameras provide videotaped evidence by which crimes are sometimes solved or clues found. This is the domain of the forensic video analyst.
What they do:
The forensic video analyst is a trained specialist who examines, compares and evaluates video recordings for use by investigative and legal teams. They also may serve as a videographer, documenting the details at crime scenes and other events such as accidents and natural disasters.
Where they work:
Forensic video analysts work in both law enforcement and civilian settings. Law enforcement personnel often serve as video analysts part-time in smaller law enforcement agencies. Some forensic video analysts are self-employed, contracting with government agencies, insurance companies, attorneys and law enforcement.
While the field is still small, an increasing number of metropolitan police agencies have their own forensic video units.
