Stress Management Training Workshop

Wayne Beaver, Mort H. Broch, Mary Alice Herzog, Craig Modell

This workshop is based on the clinical work of Wolpe and Lazarus. After pre-testing and orientation, members share their expectations and are assigned to sub-groups according to specific concerns and/or stress-producing situations. Leaders and sub-groups contract for the following sessions (or variations thereof): progressive muscle relaxation; identifying. ranking. and rating of stress elements; systematic desensitization; and practical retaining. The 27-page manual includes handouts, group contract, relaxation script, and presentation outline.


GOALS: To improve stress-coping skills; to remediate specific problems associated with stressful situations; to assist in systematic changes in members' internal reactions and behaviors toward particularly stressful situations

TARGET: Anyone experiencing psychological, physical, or psychosomatic symptoms related to stressproducing situations

LENGTH: 7 weekly sessions, 1 to 1.5 hours each
