Theme Groups
Theme Groups assist students in overcoming specific problems, developing specific skills, understanding developmental concerns, or going through difficult life transitions. Theme Groups generally meet for a specified number of sessions (usually 6 to 10 meetings) of 1 1/2 to 2 hours each week. The groups focus on such topics as coping with depression and anxiety, recovering from a romantic breakup, stress management and relaxation training, relationship enrichment, procrastination, eating disorders, self-esteem, and untwisting your thinking. |

Special Population Groups
Special Population Groups are designed for specific groups of students who have common life and cultural experiences and common stresses. In a supportive atmosphere, group members explore their past experiences and learn ways of coping with current pressures and issues. Special Population Groups include those for ethnic minority students, survivors' groups, gay men, and women's groups. |

Psychotherapy Groups
Psychotherapy Groups provide students with the opportunity to enhance their personal relationships, increase self-awareness, and try out new behaviors. These groups are composed of individuals who are interested in seeking solutions to life's problems. Trained therapists act as facilitators to assist group members in articulating their thoughts and feelings in a way that promotes growth for the entire group. Some psychotherapy groups last one semester, while others may last two or more semesters. This form of therapy is often the most effective for students who experience interpersonal or family-related problems. We have psychotherapy groups for older students, younger students, women-only groups, and mixed grops. these are offered Monday through thursday at various times. Contact the Counseling Center for information on how to join a group. |
