Academic English Program
English
Language Program
If you plan to enter a Master's or Ph.D. program at the University of Texas or another American university, the AEP program is designed for you. Your classmates will already hold at least an undergraduate degree and have definite academic goals.
If
you need to expand your English for communication, study, business, or
pleasure, the ELP program is designed for you. The student body of ELP
includes undergraduates, visiting scholars, businesspeople, and family
members of UT faculty and students. ELP students can choose intensive
or part-time study. Classes are limited to an average of 10
to 12 students. |
Admission Requirements
Intensive
Study
You must hold a university degree and show at least intermediate proficiency through a TOEFL score or by an interview (see application form). Admission to the AEP program does not guarantee admission to UT Austin or any another university. |
If you choose intensive study in the ELP Program, you will have four core courses, meeting a total of twenty hours weekly. You will also be eligible to receive a student visa and to get a UT ID. |
Academic Study
Part-time
Study
In addition to expanding your language skills, AEP specifically prepares you for graduate study. You will be trained to lead and participate in seminars, work effectively in a team, understand complex, fast-paced lectures, write documented academic papers, read a variety of authentic materials, and give presentations. |
You may register for any of the core courses or elective courses to suit your language needs or your schedule. Core courses meet five hours a week. Elective courses meet four hours a week. Your experience will be much the same as that of an intensive student, except you will not be eligible to receive a student visa or some student benefits. |
