Information for Prospective Teachers

   
 

ESL Services at the International Office of The University of Texas at Austin offers English as a Second Language courses and programs on a year-round basis. To apply for an ESL teaching position, please submit a current resume and a cover letter describing yourself and your background to:

If you wish to drop off your papers, you may do so at the ESL Services reception desk, located in Room SHC 349, on the third floor of the International Office at 105 W. Dean Keeton Street. The office is open from 8 am to 12 pm, and from 1 to 5pm, Monday through Friday.

After the director has had time to receive and review your letter and resume, please call for a personal interview. The telephone number is (512) 471-2480.

In preparing to apply for an ESL position at The University, please be aware that there are a very limited number of teaching positions available. Positions are most likely to become available in the summer months, and fall and spring positions are usually filled by those who taught in the summer months.

To be considered for a teaching position, you need to meet these qualifications:

Mike • Master's or Ph.D. degree in ESL or a related field
Mike • Two or more years of ESL or foreign language teaching experience
Mike • Native proficiency in English
Mike • Communicative proficiency in one or more other languages
Mike • Experience living outside the United States
