In order to assess your writing ability in
English, you will be asked to answer a short question in
written English. The content of the answer will not be
used to determine if you are a qualified teacher; it will
be used to see how well you can write in English.
Procedure:
1) The TEA representative will give you a question and
ask you to repond to it in writing. The question will be
about an area that you are familiar with. Possible
questions might ask you to compare something from your
home country with the US or to give an opinion on some
aspect of teaching.
2) You will have 20-30 minutes to write your answer.
3) The rater will then take and score your response
Scoring:
The TEA representative will be rating you on the
following:
Development - how much did you write in the time given?
Organization - do you understand formal writing in
English?
Structure - do you use proper grammar, punctuation, and
capitalization?
Support - do you give enough evidence to support your
answer?
In each of the four
areas, you will be given a score of Beginning,
Intermediate, or Advanced. You will need to have at least
3 intermediate and one advanced score to be considered
for an exchange.
Good luck with your
writing.
