It is designed to be a short term solution for receiving SPEEDE/ExPRESS transcripts. We will be working to fix any errors that occur, but have no plans for adding any new functionality. IF YOU ARE INSTALLING FOR THE FIRST TIME To install the software, create a directory on your hard drive. Change to that directory. Copy the downloaded file, QNE_ALL.EXE to the directory you have created. Type the command QNE_ALL This will extract all the necessary files and place them in the directory you have created. IF YOU ARE UPGRADING Change to the directory where the QnE software is installed. Copy the downloaded file, QNE_MENU.EXE, to this directory. Type the command QNE_MENU This will extract the upgraded programs and place them in this directory. *****WARNING: THIS SOFTWARE SHOULD BE RUN FROM DOS. IT WAS NOT DESIGNED ***** TO RUN UNDER WINDOWS 3.1 OR ANY OTHER VERSION OF WINDOWS. ***** HOWEVER, IT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO RUN PROPERLY UNDER WIN 3.1, ***** AND I AM RUNNING IT UNDER WINDOWS 95, BUT STRANGE AND ***** NON-REPEATABLE ERRORS SOMETIMES OCCUR. One limitation of the software is that it MUST be executed from the directory in which it is installed. It will NOT work if you put the directory in your path and try to execute it from another directory. This also means that files to be printed/translated must be copied to this directory also. We hope to solve this limitation in a future release. To execute the program, copy the file or files you wish to process to the directory where the system is installed, change to that directory, and type the command SPAACRAO. You should get the main menu (illustrated on the next page). Please give the system a full workout. We currently have a limitation with files with non-standard end-of-line conventions, such as Unix (CR) or MAC (LF). We are working on this also. If you have any problems and/or questions, and I'm sure you will, please contact me (Wally Reeves) at wallyr@mail.utexas.edu. >>>>>>>>>> Type the command "SET CLIPPER=R090 just before <<<<<<<<<< >>>>>>>>>> starting the software. OPTION 1 Print a SPEEDE transcript file This option will bring up a screen of file names, and let you pick one to be printed. Press to return to the main menu. NOTE: The list of files includes all files in the directory (except .EXE, .DBF, NDX, .BAT, or .COM). This makes it possible to select a file the program cannot handle. It will only handle SPEEDE transcripts. To print and ExPRESS transcript, use OPTION 2. After selecting a file, you will be prompted for the number of lines per page. If you enter 23 lines per page or less, the transcript will be sent to the screen. Otherwise, it will be sent to the printer. One warning about the printing: the system is not very smart about print errors. If your printer runs out of paper, or some other problem, you will get a prompt, and the only thing you can do is abort the program and restart. This is a function of the underlying system, and we haven't found a way around it yet. Hopefully we will in a future release. OPTION 2 Print an EXPRESS transcript file This program is the same as OPTION 1, but it handles ExPRESS format transcript files. Option 0 will return you to the Main Menu. 1. Option 1 will allow you to process Outgoing and/or Incoming SPEEDE/ExPRESS format transcript files for acknowledgements. The Outgoing files will have "expected acknowledgements" created and stored. The Incoming files will have actual acknowledgements created for transmission, and will have any acknowledgements stored for reconciliation with the "expected acknowledgements". The file name of the outgoing acknowledgement file is created by taking the name of the incoming file (without the extension), and putting an extension of .ACK on it. For example, if the incoming file is TESTFILE.SPE, the outgoing acknowledgement file will be name TESTFILE.ACK. Also, the program has no way of knowing the "certified acknowledgment address", to which acknowledgements are supposed to be sent (re: SPEEDE/ExPRESS Implementation Guide). It generates the ISA record by reversing the ISA 05/06 and ISA 07/08. This means that the acknowledgment will be returned to the sending institution. If you are using the UT Austin Internet EDI Server, this will work, because the server has the validated acknowledgement address. If you are using some other delivery mechanism, you must make sure that you send the acknowledgments to the correct address for the institution that sent the transcripts. 2. Option 2 will reconcile received acknowledgements, and report on any discrepancies, such as data fields that do not match, and acknowledgements received that have no match with a stored record of a transcript sent. 3. Option 3 will check for any expected acknowledgements that have not been received where the transcript was sent more than X number of days earlier (you will be prompted for X). OPTION 5 Print an EXPRESS transcript file (new format) This program is the same as OPTION 2, but it prints the transcript in a more traditional format. Standalone Programs SPEEDPR$.EXE - This program is similar to option 1 - Print a SPEEDE transcript. When started, it will print the file named ETyymmdd.SPE (yymmdd is the current date), without any input from the user, and exit back to DOS. It can be run from a batch file as part of an unattended process. qne.txt 01/07/99 10:25 a.m.
