We know you are itching to get into your new residence hall room! But what should you bring to live on campus?


What to Bring

Desk and chair
Dresser
Bed - Extra long twin beds
MicroFridge(combination microwave and refrigerator/ freezer).
Cable TV Service
ResNet - Internet Service
Recycling container/wastebasket
Closet space
Window blinds
Shower curtain

Bring This

Your UT ID Card
You will use it for check in, Bevo Bucks, Dine In Dollars and getting in to your residence hall. If you do not have a UT ID Card before you arrive, you will be issued a temporary card that you may use for a few days until you get an ID Card.

Linens
Pillow, blanket, comforter, mattress pad, towels, washcloth

Sheets
Extra long twin sheets (XL twin)

Study light with florescent bulb only

Bathroom supplies
If you are in a connecting or private bath you will need to bring toilet tissue and bathroom cleaners. After you check in, connecting and private baths are not supplied with toilet tissue and you will be cleaning it!

Removable adhesive for hanging posters and pictures

Network cable for your computer
Cat 5, 15-foot recommended maximum length.

Cable jumper for your T.V.
You will need to provide a cable jumper to connect your television to the wall outlet. Our cable provider recommends a high quality cable jumper, size RG-6 or RG-59, 750 ohm rated, with screw on connections.

Dishes for your room
Silverware, cups, glasses, dish soap, dish towel, paper towels, etc.

Power strips
Power strips are used instead of extension cords. The power strip must be rated for a maximum of 15 amps and 1875 watts and have a built-in circuit breaker.

Shower supplies
Shower tote, toiletries and other personal items.

Laundry supplies
Basket, low-sudsing detergent for front loading washer, fabric softener, clothes bag. There are laundry facilities in every hall.

Health care products
First aid kit, allergy, headache and stomach meds.

Lock
There is a lockable drawer for each roommate in every residence hall room. Bring your own lock and use it to keep valuables safe.

Throw rug
Student rooms are not carpeted. A 5' by 8' rug will fit in all rooms.

Coffee Pot (12 cups and under)
Hot Pot
Iron
Blender
Coffee Grinder
Food Dehydrator
Juicer
Electric Can Opener
Electric blanket and heating pad (Blankets and heating pads must be UL rated and plugged into the power strip.)

Leave at Home

Pets (Only fish are permitted in a five gallon or less aquarium)
Holiday lights, halogen lamps, black or neon lights, incandescent bulbs,
Paper lamps or lanterns with bulbs or a light kit
Firearms, weapons or facsimiles
Fireworks and Explosives
Candles with burned or unburned wicks
Incense or anything with an open flame
Extension cords or multi-plug converters
Toxic chemicals
Combustible materials such as charcoal, gasoline, propane or charcoal starter fluid.
Lofts(neither self-built or purchased)
Wireless Router

Appliances NOT allowed:
  • Crock Pot
  • Electric wok and skillet
  • George Foreman Grill
  • Hamburger cooker
  • Hot plate or any appliance with open heating coils
  • Rice cooker
  • Toaster
  • Toaster oven
  • Deep fryer
  • Bread maker
  • Coffee/drink warmer
  • Microwave (comes with room)
  • Refrigerator (comes with room)
  • Soldering Iron
  • Space Heater
