A Bit of History
Andrews was named for Jessie Andrews or "Miss Jessie" as she was called on the campus. Jessie was the first woman to graduate from UT (1886 - German Studies) and when she did the other male graduates gave her a gold medal with the five point star and seal of Texas. Jessie also became UT's first female Texas-Ex and the first female instructor at UT. Andrews Residence Hall was the third dormitory built for women on-campus. It opened in September 1936 to house approximately 118 of the University's women students. The building is of Spanish Renaissance style architecture with cream bricks and a red tile roof. In the Fall of 1993, Andrews became a coed building and a part of the Honors Residence Halls.
