Fall 2016 Mooov-In: Before You Arrive
Welcome to The University of Texas at Austin!
We know that you might be going through information overload as you get ready to move to UT Austin. Use this page as a helpful guide about what to prepare during the summer, what to pack and what to expect when you arrive on campus.
This page will guide you through the steps you can take to get ready for Mooov-In. You can learn about the actual Mooov-In process here.
We're looking forward to seeing you on campus! Hook 'em!
Things To Do Before You Arrive
First things first; take care of these items before you get to campus. You won't regret it!
1. Choose Your Preferences
Make your residence hall, roommate, and bath choices by July 1. Go to your My Housing page and update your preferences. You can edit or update your preferences as many times as you'd like up until July 1. It never affects your housing application priority date.
2. Contact Your Roommate
Your new roomie's email and phone number will be listed on your official housing assignment (which we will be rolling out to you beginning mid-to-late-July). Get acquainted and decide who will be bringing the TV, etc.
3. Schedule a Check-In Time
Schedule a check-in time that is convenient for you. The Check-In Scheduler will be available in June.
4. Read Through the Residence Hall Manual
The Residence Hall Manual has tons of information like: appliances that are/are not allowed, guest policy, emergency preparedness information and more. Updates for the 2016-17 school year will be incorporated into the manual later this summer.
5. Start Getting Involved
You don't have to wait until you arrive on campus to start getting involved. Follow UT Housing on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to get the latest info on campus life, with contests happening throughout the summer.
6. Get your Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination
All first-time students will not be allowed to register for classes until University Health Services (UHS) has received and processed documentation showing that you have received the bacterial meningitis vaccine. Learn more.
7. Consider Purchasing Property Insurance
Students can minimize the financial impact of theft, fire, etc., by insuring their personal property. Many homeowner policies cover student belongings, or parents can purchase a rider on their insurance.
8. Complete Your Emergency Contact/Medical Forms Online
Students must complete or review their Emergency Contact/Medical Forms. These forms will provide information that would be helpful during an emergency.
What to Bring?
Preparing for your first year at UT is exciting! We know you're itching to get into your new residence hall. Check out these handy lists of what you should (and shouldn't) bring with you to campus.
When packing for Mooov-In, try to pack as efficiently as possible so your car can be easily unloaded.
Did You Know?
Every room comes with a MicroFridge (a mini-refrigerator with a built-in freezer and microwave). Talk with your roommate about keeping the MicroFridge stocked with plenty of healthy options. Or, if you feel like doing some cooking of your own, you can always check out cooking equipment from your hall's front desk and make a meal in the community kitchen.
UTPD offers engraving machines for students to use. You can engrave your driver's license number or contact information on electronics, bicycles, etc. to help keep your property safe. Check with your hall's front desk to find out when UTPD will be in your hall to engrave belongings.
Bevo Bucks can be used at over 130 different merchants, both on- and off-campus. You use them on-campus in the laundry rooms, tutoring centers, vending machines, the Forty Acres Pharmacy or restaurants in the Union or Student Activity Center. Bevo Bucks are also the only way to pay for printing on-campus through UTprint. For a full listing of merchants who accept Bevo Bucks on- or off-campus, click here.
You have access to a registered dietician on campus. If you have questions about allergies, nutritional goals or healthy habits, you can meet with the registered dietician free of charge.
