Getting InFrequently Asked Questions

Q: When will I get my Hall & Room Assignment?

A: Residence hall and room assignments are mailed in mid-July. You may be assigned to any hall within your contract type. Residence hall assignments are made based on the date that you applied for housing.

Q: When do I find out who my roommate is?

A: Your hall and room assignment letter that you receive in mid-July lists your roommate's name, email address and telephone number.

Q: If I receive a contract offer after May 1, will I receive my roommate preference?

A: Usually not. We try our best to satisfy your roommate choice, but late contract offers, amended contracts and supplemental contract holder's roommate preferences are not guaranteed.

Q: What if I requested a single space contract as my first choice and received a shared space contract which was my second choice?

A: You may receive a contract for any of the choices you checked on your application. You may initially receive a contract for shared space. However, we amend contracts to first choices as space permits throughout the year.

Q: How do I pay for my room and meals?

A: Click here to find out!

Q: Is my $300 advance room payment deducted from my total residence hall room contract amount?

A. Yes, it is deducted from the total amount shown on your contract. The balance owed will be listed on your first statement.

Q: Can I bring a refrigerator for my room?

A. All rooms have microfridges as a standard feature. These units are a combined refrigerator/freezer and microwave; therefore, you cannot bring a refrigerator or microwave.

Q: I am a CAP student, if I applied for housing last year and paid the $50 application fee do I have to pay it again when I apply for housing this year?

A: You will need to submit a new application for housing. You do not need to pay an additional $50 application fee. This process is only applicable for the year in which you are transferring to the University of Texas at Austin from another CAP institution.

Q: Where can I get the rest of my questions answered?

A. Send an email to housing@austin.utexas.edu or call (512) 471-3136 Monday thru Friday between 8:30 and 4:30.
