Residence Life and Organizational Diversity and Development Accomplishments

  1. Created an Assessment Team comprised of one representative from each DHFS department, with the expectation that separate assessment plans will be developed for each department. The DHFS Assessment Team began meeting in fall 2010.
  2. The Music and Culture initiative was created to provide a dynamic music venue that educates, explores, engages, and exposes residents and non-residents to a range of musical expressions.
  3. Established the DHFS Leadership Institute in fall 2011 to provide supervisory staff and emerging leaders with resources to improve their leadership skills.
  4. Developed and implemented a new programming model, connected to learning outcomes.
  5. Established Information Channel to support resident programming and educational announcements.
  6. Discontinued the purchase of plastic cups, cans, and bottled water for residence life sponsored programs.
  7. Implemented a safety test announcement, conducted at 11:50 a.m., on the first Wednesday of each month.
  8. Created Pandemic Flu and Emergency Response Plans for DHFS.
  9. Developed collaborative Academic Learning Communities within residence halls.
  10. Designed transformative learning environments in the form of cultural galleries and art displays.
  11. Identified residence hall space for holding Freshman Seminars.
  12. Developed a centralized check-in process for over 7500 residents.
  13. Hosted the 2010 Southwest Association of College and University Housing Officers (SWACUHO) Annual Conference.
  14. Developed and implemented an annual Quality of Life Survey to measure resident satisfaction.
  15. Introduced the Hoelting Organizational Diversity Model.
  16. Added diversity education requirements to the evaluation process for all full-time DHFS staff.
  17. Designed an Almetris Marsh Mama Duren keep-sake medallion.
  18. Permitted to name newest residence hall after female African American, Almetris Marsh Mama Duren.
  19. Partnered with Educational Benchmarking, Inc. to develop the EBI Faculty/Staff Organizational Climate/Diversity Assessment that is available to schools and colleges nationally.
  20. Received the Southwest Association of College and University Housing Officers (SWACUHO) 2008 Institutional Diversity Award.
  21. Chosen by the National Association of College Auxiliary Services to receive the 2005 Golden Award for organizational diversity.
  22. Developed a Hate Incident Guide to address acts of harassment and intolerance.
  23. Partnered with the Kinesiology Department and Fitness Institute of Texas to expand the staff wellness initiative into a comprehensive year round program that includes exercise and nutrition challenges, wellness information classes, screenings, and an annual wellness fair.
  24. Created the Read and Discover Diversity Book Discussion Group to explore diversity/inclusion and social justice through reading and dialoguing.
  25. Created a Faculty Mentor Program that provides an open community within the residence halls for faculty-student engagement.
  26. Created a Residence Hall Program Team in 2011 that offers weekend, late-night, and special programming activities throughout the course of the academic year.
