What Are Healthy Suggestions?
Healthy Suggestions are provided weekly to show a daily option for three meals with 30% or less of calories from fat and to serve as a model for well balanced meals.

Healthy Suggestions provide 1800 to 2100 calories per day. Many students' calorie needs fall within this range, and the new food label uses 2000 calories per day as a reference standard.

Healthy Suggestions provide three meals daily with 30% or less of calories from fat (a maximum of 60-70 grams of fat for 1800 to 2100 calories per day). The American Heart Association recommends that 30% or less of total daily calories come from fat to reduce the risk of heart disease.

Healthy Suggestions follow the guidelines of the Food Guide Pyramid by providing at least the minimum number of recommended servings from each group per day.

Healthy Suggestions provide a minimum of two entrees, six servings from the bread, cereal, rice, and pasta group (may be contained in entr?e), three servings of vegetables (may be contained in entr?e), two fruit servings, three dairy servings, and occasional desserts. Beverages such as coffee, tea, and soft drinks may be included in meal selections, but will not affect fat content, and therefore, are not included in Healthy Suggestions.
