+ The Dream Act/Deferred Action (JES HDC) [02:00 PM - 04:00 PM]

Enroll for HF4124 through TXClass.

(Diversity: Awareness) Approximately 65,000 undocumented students graduate from U.S. high schools every year! The greater part of these undocumented students cannot pursue their educational goals and other ambitions due to their immigration status. The DREAM (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) Act is a bill that would help young immigrants gain legal permanent residency through college education or military service. This session will raise awareness about current issues in immigration and education. Learning Outcome: Participants will become familiar with the Dream Act.

-- If you need accommodations for this class, please contact Philemon Brown at 232-2516 no later than 5 business days, prior to the class. This class is subject to rescheduling if fewer than five people enroll.

African American History Month

Americans have recognized black history annually since 1926, first as "Negro History Week" and later as "Black History Month." What you might not know is that black history had barely begun to be studied?or even documented?when the tradition originated. Although blacks have been in America at least as far back as colonial times, it was not until the 20th century that they gained a respectable presence in the history books.
