Opened in 2007, the newest hall is named after Almetris "Mama" Duren who helped African-American students at the University from 1956 to 1980. Hall highlights include "Azteca" Seneca Quarry Tile flooring in Lobby and exposed red oak wood beams and Texas heritage furniture in Formal Lounge.
A Bit of History
Almetris Marsh Duren was a maternal figure to some and she always had an ear ready to listen to the problems and concerns of the African American students of UT during the time of UT's racial integration of the 60s. She gave the students advice and helped guide them as they made their way through the University during a very difficult time. The Hall dedication celebration was held on October 12, 2007.
