  • JULY 21 TUESDAY. Registration fee bills for the fall semester mailed to students.
    AUGUST 12 WEDNESDAY. Payment deadline for students who registered for the fall semester by July 17. Tuition may be paid in full or in installments.
    AUGUST 14-19 FRIDAY-WEDNESDAY. International student orientation--new students only.
    AUGUST 18 TUESDAY. Orientation and testing begin.

    Fall Semester 1998

    AUGUST 20-21 THURSDAY-FRIDAY. Registration for the fall semester for new and readmitted students who have not yet registered; to complete registration, fees must be paid no later than 5:00 pm on August 25.
    AUGUST 21 FRIDAY. University residence halls open at 9:00 am.
    AUGUST 23 SUNDAY. Add/drop for the fall semester for students who registered and paid their fees by August 12.
    AUGUST 24 MONDAY. Registration for the fall semester for continuing students who have not yet registered; to complete registration, fees must be paid no later than 5:00 pm on August 25.

    University Health Services benefits become available to all students.

    AUGUST 25 TUESDAY. Add/drop for the fall semester for students who registered and paid their fees by August 12.

    Deadline for graduate students to be registered in absentia for the fall semester.

    AUGUST 26 WEDNESDAY. Classes begin.
    AUGUST 31 MONDAY. Last day of the official add/drop period; after this date, changes in registration require the approval of the chairman and usually the student's dean. (See General Information, chapter 4, for required approvals.)

    Last day undergraduate students may register without the approval of the registrar.

    Last day graduate students may register and pay fees without the approval of the graduate dean.

    SEPTEMBER 7 MONDAY. Labor Day holiday.
    SEPTEMBER 11 FRIDAY. Twelfth class day; this is the date the official enrollment count is taken.

    Last day an undergraduate student may add a course except for rare and extenuating circumstances.

    Payment for added courses (add bill) due.

    Last day to drop a course for a possible refund. (See General Information, chapter 4, for required approvals.)

    Last day a graduate student may, with the required approvals, add a course.

    SEPTEMBER 14 MONDAY. Last day to apply for a graduate degree.
    SEPTEMBER 23 WEDNESDAY. Last day to drop a course without a possible academic penalty. (See General Information, chapter 4, for required approvals.)

    Second tuition installment payment due for students who selected the three-payment plan.

    SEPTEMBER 30 WEDNESDAY. Priority date for student financial aid applications for the spring semester.
    OCTOBER 1 THURSDAY. Application deadline for Study Abroad Program for the spring semester.
    OCTOBER 7 WEDNESDAY. International Education Fee (IEF) Scholarship competition for the spring semester begins.
    OCTOBER 14 WEDNESDAY. Intrasemester reports due in the deans' offices.
    OCTOBER 21 WEDNESDAY. Last day an undergraduate student may, with the dean's approval, withdraw from the University or drop a course except for urgent and substantiated, nonacademic reasons.

    Last day a student may change registration in a course to or from the pass/fail or credit/no credit basis.

    Last day to apply for an undergraduate degree.

    Last day an undergraduate student or a law student may register in absentia.

    OCTOBER 22-23, 26-28 THURSDAY-FRIDAY, MONDAY-WEDNESDAY. Academic advising for continuing and readmitted students for the spring semester.
    OCTOBER 26 - NOVEMBER 7 MONDAY-SATURDAY (two weeks, excluding Sunday). Registration for the spring semester for continuing and readmitted students.
    OCTOBER 28 WEDNESDAY. Final tuition installment payment due for students who selected the three-payment plan.

    Deadline for master's degree candidates to have all incompletes removed from their Programs of Work; grade change forms must be submitted by instructors to the Office of Graduate Studies by this date.

    NOVEMBER 10 TUESDAY. Registration fee bills for the spring semester mailed to students.
    NOVEMBER 26-28 THURSDAY-SATURDAY. Thanksgiving holidays.
    DECEMBER 4 FRIDAY. Last class day.

    Last day to submit master's report, thesis, doctoral dissertation, or treatise to the graduate dean.
