Exemption from Fees

Fee exemptions are issued only for the period in which a student is currently enrolled; therefore, applications must be submitted no later than commencement day at the end of the spring semester or the official graduation date at the end of the summer session or fall semester. Detailed information about fee exemptions is in the table that begins below.

Accredited School Scholarship
     Eligibility      Highest ranking graduate of an accredited Texas high school

     Eligibility      Children of members of the armed forces who were killed in action or whose death is documented to be directly caused by illness or injury related to service in the armed forces in World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Cold War (February 1, 1955, to present), the Vietnam era (December 21, 1961, to May 7, 1975), the Grenada and Lebanon era (August 24, 1982, to July 31, 1984), or the Persian Gulf War (August 2, 1990, to September 1, 1997), and children of members of the Texas National Guard killed since January 1, 1946, while on active duty

Required fees include the Gregory Gymnasium renovation fee, the health services building fee, incidental fees, the information technology fee, the infrastructure charge, the international education fee, laboratory fees, the library fee, the medical services fee, the recreational sports fee, the registration fee, the student services fee, the student services building fee, supplementary fees, the Undergraduate Writing Center fee (undergraduates only), and the Texas Union fee.

Waivers

Waivers indicate that a portion of the tuition and/or required fees does not have to be paid. A student will still be responsible for payment of the remaining tuition and/or required fees not covered by the waiver. Waivers are issued only for the period in which a student is currently enrolled; therefore, applications must be submitted no later than commencement day at the end of the spring semester, or the official graduation date at the end of the summer session or fall semester.

Competitive scholarship recipients
     Eligibility      Nonresident or international students receiving competitive scholarships for at least $1,000
Competed with other students, including Texas residents, for the award
Scholarship administered by a school-recognized scholarship committee

Faculty, teaching or research assistants
     Eligibility      Employee, or employee's dependent
Employee must have a qualifying job title for at least 20 hours per week, and be appointed monthly. The beginning employment date must be on or before the twelfth class day (fourth class day for a summer term)
If the dependent is the spouse of the employee, a marriage license must be on file with Special Billing, Student Accounts Receivable, Main Building 4.

Third Party Billing

Agencies outside UT Austin may set up third party billing arrangements which pay any portion of a student's tuition and fees. A student will still be responsible for payment of the remaining tuition and/or fees not covered by the third party. Arrangements must be made in advance with the Special Billing Office, Main Building 4.
TANF Students
     Eligibility      Texas high school graduate
Texas resident
Enrollment in college within 24 months of high school graduation
Age less than 22 at the time of enrollment
During the last year of high school, receipt of financial assistance under Chapter 31, Human Resources Code (TANF), for not less than 6 months
