Parking and Registration of Motor Vehicles

Students who drive or park a vehicle on campus must purchase a permit from Parking and Transportation Services (PTS). To park within the campus boundaries, a proper permit must be displayed as required. Purchase of a permit does not assure a parking space in a specified lot.

The following policies, fees, and regulations are proposed for the 2002-2003 academic year. These policies, fees, and regulations are subject to final confirmation by the Board of Regents and will be effective on the date enacted. For the most current regulations, a student should contact the Parking and Transportation Services Office, Service Building, Room 1, (512) 471-PARK (7275) or the PTS Web site.

Students are eligible for six types of University of Texas at Austin parking permits.

  1. Class A parking permits are available to graduate students at the University who are also employed at UT Austin for at least twenty hours a week. A signed copy of the appointment or reappointment form is required to obtain a Class A permit. The cost is $108 for a Class A parking permit. It provides parking in specific surface lots in undesignated spaces.
  2. Class C parking permits are available to any student enrolled in the University. The fee for the Class C parking permit is $80 for the year. It is available to commuter students on surface lots in undesignated spaces.
  3. Class D parking permits are available to persons with disabilities in designated spaces. The cost of this parking permit is $108 per year. Individuals whose vehicles display a valid University permit for the disabled plus the state-issued license plate or placard for the disabled may park in any space designated for the disabled. These UT Austin permits are available at the Parking and Transportation Services Office, Service Building, Room 1, on 24th Street off San Jacinto Boulevard. An applicant must present a state-issued license plate or placard for the disabled and a copy of his or her application signed by a physician for a Texas Department of Transportation disabled permit. Temporary permits for the disabled may also be obtained from Parking and Transportation Services. A student whose vehicle displays the disabled veteran license plate or Congressional Medal of Honor recipient's license plate and/or placard is exempt from the payment of all parking fees on campus but must display the Class D parking permit.
  4. Class M parking permits are issued for motorcycles, motor-assisted bicycles, and motor scooters. These vehicles may be parked only in areas designated for their use. This permit costs $40 for the year. There is no charge for a Class M permit with the purchase of another permit.
  5. Class R garage parking permits are available to residents of University-owned housing located on the main campus. Class R permits are available for $336 a semester or $616 for nine months. Class R permits are valid through May 31 of the following year. Students may purchase a permit for the summer session for an additional fee of $225.
  6. Class S garage parking permits are available to commuter students for $240 per semester, $131 for the summer session, or $510 for twelve months.

Class C, M, and A permits purchased in the fall semester are valid through August 31 of the following year. Permits purchased after September 30 are prorated monthly. Permit refunds are offered during the add-drop period for the semester that the permit was purchased and replacement permits are available for a nominal fee.
