Shuttle Bus Service

The University shuttle bus system is operated for the benefit of students, faculty and staff members, their dependents, and retirees of the University. The system is funded entirely by the mandatory student services fee. Shuttle bus patrons should be prepared to show their IDs on request.

Shuttle service is provided on all scheduled registration, class, and final examination days. On most routes, service is not provided on holidays or weekends, except on Saturdays that are final examination days. Maps and schedules are available at the information desks in the Main Building and the Texas Union. Written inquiries regarding the changes to routes or policies should be sent to The University of Texas at Austin, Shuttle Bus Committee, P O Box 8179, Austin TX 78713-8179.

Parking and Registration of Motor Vehicles

Students who drive or park a vehicle on campus must purchase a permit from Parking and Transportation Services (PTS). To park within the campus boundaries, a proper permit must be displayed as required. Purchase of a surface lot permit (A, C, D, M) does not assure a parking space in a specified lot. Purchase of a garage permit assures an unassigned parking space in the garage in which it is valid.

The following policies, fees, and regulations are proposed for the 2003-2004 academic year. They are subject to final confirmation by the Board of Regents and will be effective on the date enacted. For the most current regulations, a student should visit the PTS Web site, visit the PTS office on the first level of the Trinity Parking Garage (1815 Trinity Street), or call (512) 471-PARK (471-7275).

Students are eligible for the following types of parking permits and access cards.

  1. Class C (commuting student) parking permits are available to all students enrolled at the University. The fee for the Class C parking permit is $89 for the year. It allows parking in "C" or "Any UT Permit" surface lots in undesignated spaces.
  2. Class C+ permits (commuting student plus Night Horn access card) are available to all students enrolled at the University. The fee is $139 per year.
  3. Class A (staff) parking permits are available to graduate students who are also employed at the University for at least twenty hours a week. A signed copy of the appointment or reappointment form is required to obtain a Class A permit. The cost is $108 per year. Parking is in specific surface lots in undesignated spaces.
  4. Class D (disabilities) parking permits are available to students with disabilities. The cost is $89 per year. Individuals whose vehicles display a valid University permit for the disabled and the appropriate state-issued license plate or placard may park in any space with a "D" or handicap designation. Class D permits are available at the PTS office in the Trinity Garage, located at the corner of Trinity Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. An applicant must present a state-issued license plate or placard for the disabled and a copy of his or her Texas Department of Transportation D-12 form with a doctor's signature. Temporary permits for the disabled may also be obtained from the PTS office. A student whose vehicle displays the disabled veteran license plate or Congressional Medal of Honor recipient's license plate or placard is exempt from the payment of all parking fees on campus but must display the Class D parking permit.
  5. Class M parking permits are issued for motorcycles, motor-assisted bicycles, and motor scooters. These vehicles may be parked only in areas designated for their use. This permit costs $50 for the year. There is no charge for a Class M permit with the purchase of another permit.
  6. Class R garage parking permits are available to residents of University-owned housing located on the main campus. Class R permits are available for $336 a semester or $616 for nine months. Class R permits are valid through May 31 of the following year. Students may purchase a permit for the summer session for an additional fee of $225.
  7. Class S garage parking permits are available to commuter students for $240 per semester, $131 for the summer session, or $510 for twelve months.
  8. Night Horn access cards for any of the garages are available for $50 for nine months (September through May); $35 per semester; or $25 for the summer session.

Class C, C+, M, and A permits purchased in the fall semester are valid through August 31 of the following year. Permits purchased after September 30 are prorated monthly. Permit refunds are offered during the add/drop period for the semester that the permit was purchased, and replacement permits are available for a nominal fee.

Parking may be restricted in any garage or surface lot for special events.
